BioWelcome to the Strange Leaflet.
Sponsored by the League of Etymology, the Strange Leaflet is a brave new endeavor in magazine and web journalism. At the Leaflet we focus on the biggest part of the Kingdom of Loathing, and yet the part that gets the least attention in the web world: the players.
In the coming months we hope to present you with a cornucopia of interviews and articles from and on the players, but it doesn't stop there. We hope to report on the unique histories and current happenings of the grooviest Kingdom clans, and all the community-based projects that have sprung up from this once simple game just west of the real world.
Looking to Help?
We've recieved several offers to help out with the Strange Leaflet. Here are some guidelines for submission:
Writers:
If you wish to become a correspondent for the Leaflet, please submit a writing sample along with one or more story ideas to Pastamancer.Press@gmail.com
We have exacting standards. Not everything fits within the scope of the Strange Leaflet, so expect occassional rejection.
Helpful Hints for Writers:
- We LIKE interviews. Getting in depth with players of interest is our primary focus.
- We LIKE investigation. A lot of wierd stuff happens in KoL that isn't widely known or documented. Find out what went down, and you've got a leg up.
- We LIKE news. We're not a news/spoiler site like Coldfront, but we want to stay on top of community happenings. A clan is having a week-long celebration, write about it.
- We HATE rants. Seriously. No one cares about your bitching. Everyone hates meat beggers. It's not news. However, an editorial on an issue that you can present a solution for is fine, but don't stop there. If it's a fixable problem, talk to those who can fix it and get a comment.
- We HATE politics. The Strange Leaflet is a non-political zine. Keep your subtle jabs out of your writing.
- We HATE fanfic. While we have no qualms about posting writing from extremely talented players who are pursuing the arts, this zine is not a depository for everyone's angsty poetry and fanfic.
Wages:
Fisrt Story: 50,000 meat
Second Story: 100,000 meat
Third and Up: 150,000 meat or you can decide to be a staff writer. You'll get an icon, a place on the masthead, and 250,000 meat per story. You will be required to turn in regular work.
Editors:
Our call for editors is not great, but if you would like to lend your editing talents to the Strange Leaflet, e-mail Pastamancer.Press@gmail.com briefly explaining your intentions and qualifications.
Wages are dependant on the size and requirements of the project.
Artists:
Currently, all Strange Leaflet art is being handled by Automatic Jack (illustrations) and PrinceHarming (graphics). We are not in the market for staff artists.
We are, however, open to anyone who would care to publish a regular, quality comic strip on our pages. Again, our standards are high, and unfortunately it is not currently a paying position... It's not really that great of a deal, really, but you might get a little exposure out of it.
We will also accept particularly nice pin-ups.
